Bernheim is celebrating its 90th Anniversary in a GIANT way through a new art exhibit called Forest Giants in a Giant Forest. Internationally renowned Danish artist Thomas Dambo will be at Bernheim from Feb 20 – March 18 creating giant larger than life sculptures made from recycled materials. He will create three giants. The forest giants in Bernheim Arboretum are constructed completely of wood recycled from local resources – from the forest itself, to wooden pallets, to discards from the Louisville Slugger plant nearby.

The massive sculptures were created using wood and a variety of other sustainable materials. The giants can be found along a two-mile loop trail encompassing the arboretum. The Forest Giants are the draw now. Since a Danish artist/sculptor created the new forest giants at Bernheim Forest attendance has seemed to soar. I have to admit it was a nice reserve before the giants but now it’s a must do thing in the area. The good news is that there is now more signage that directs you to Discover Bernheim Forest Giants in Shepherdsville, Kentucky: Visitors to this arboretum are greeted by three smiling giants crafted from sustainable materials.

I will tell people that outside the really cool Forrest giants bernheim still has a lot of fun walking trails and pretty open spaces to explore. We did it for years before the kids wanted to only see the forest giants. This park does have a lot to offer. I personally like to attend on a weekday if possible because there is less traffic and no fees.
